Airlie Beach via Rockhampton en Town of 1770 naar Hervey Bay

Airlie Beach via Rockhampton (-> 490km) en Town of 1770 (-> 228km) naar Hervey Bay (-> 259km)

Doel: dagtochtje naar zuidelijke deel van het Great Barrier Reef = Lady Muskgrove island.

Resultaat: VOL en campings ook VOL…waar komen al die mensen in eens vandaan? Bij kerst hadden we het verwacht, viel erg mee. Met oud&nieuw wisten we het maar nu zo hier…???

Plan: We staan als 1ste op de wachtlijst en voegen ons de volgende dag om 7:00uur bij de andere mensen…fingers crossed!

Resultaat: PECH, shit out of luck…staan we om 7:30 ingesmeerd en bepakt en bezakt klaar voor niets dus…

Gelukkig had de Lonely Planet ons al gewaarchuwd (niet dus):

We hebben het nergens zo hectisch en druk gezien! ;)

Kan gebeuren dus “flex” als we zijn dan in Da Beast en crossen naar Hervey Bay. Zou het daar dan ook zo druk zijn? Zou de (lange) Australische zomer/schoolvakantie dan hier pas zichtbaar worden m.a.w. vertrekt iedereen uit Brisbane noord maar neemt niet de moeite om voorbij Rockhampton te rijden? Het lijkt ons onwaarschijnlijk en lijkt dat we dus gewoon stinkend pech hadden.

Hervey Bay

Zo vroeg op pad heeft ook z’n voordelen…omstreeks 11u komen we aan bij ons 1ste keuze camping en daar is het gewoon weer ontspannen en meer dan genoeg plek. Op wandelafstand van wederom een esplanade en het strand. GOED gekozen!

Nou is het niet dat we nog geen “aardige” foto’s hebben maar ok deze plek leent zich hier ook weer perfect voor. Niet in de minste plaats door het WetSideWaterEducationPark, niet meer dan een fancy name voor een waterpark waar kids in dit klimaat weer helemaal los gaan: SPLASH! Gewoon weer goed geregeld en tja, het klinkt Hollands maar GRATIS.

Fraser Island

Slaan wij even over…4WD-filerijden op een aangemaakte “strand”snelweg; er staan inderdaad snelheidborden van max.80/100km…de idilische plekjes blijven ook wel adembenemend zonder ons. Kids zijn zowieso happier met een pappa die pannekoeken maakte en mochten spelen met de buurjongens. Pappa ook blij- het lijkt wel vakantie…Jack Johnson (goeie hint vanaf de Derwent Huter!) deuntje op de BOSE speaker en …RELAX!
